After earning his undergraduate degree from San Francisco State University in 2003, and Juris Doctor from Whittier Law School in 2006, Mr. Sutherland first practiced criminal law for 3 years as a Deputy District Attorney in Madera County, California. He then worked as a workers’ compensation defense attorney for several years, representing several major employers and insurance companies. He is now proud to represent injured workers’ in their workers’ compensation cases at the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Boards. In 2016, Mr. Sutherland was awarded the Clients' Choice Award from Avvo.com, passed the California Workers' Compensation Legal Specialist Examination and was inducted into membership with the California Applicants' Attorneys Association. Mr. Sutherland is currently a State Bar of California Certified Workers’ Compensation Specialist.
While in law school, Mr. Sutherland served as an editor on the Whittier Law Review for 2 years. Mr. Sutherland also completed a judicial externship while in law school, serving as a legal research assistant to Presiding Justice David G. Sills at the Court of Appeal, Fourth District, Division III, in Santa Ana, California. After graduating, Mr. Sutherland also completed an internship with the San Francisco Public Defenders’ Office.
When away from work, Mr. Sutherland enjoys tennis, running, hiking, meditation, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
